Wandering in Winter

It's been a strange winter in GA. Seventy-Five degrees on Christmas day, wet and warm, then cold, gorgeous sunny days, and now rain again. Whatever the weather, Serenbe is beautiful.

I genuinely love to wander the woods after a good rain or even in light drizzle. It is magical. Streams are alive and resolute.

Woods are lush with intensity. Pedro claims his boulder!

Woods are puddle-wonderful.

Embolden red clay marks the path.

Mud-luscious fields with happy horses.

Muted colors begin to come alive as sun peaks through clouds.

Sun returns in all his radiance, peering through trees, dancing on water.

Mysterious shadows return.

Colors soften and brighten.

Cooped up animals escape!

And greet. Hello!

Flowers bloom in January!

Trees luxuriate in cloud-kissed sky.

Creating palettes of pattern, color, and song.

Horses dry out.

Eyes smiling. Welcoming every day.

Holiday Serenity in Serenbe

The week before Christmas. Hard to believe, especially with temperatures in the 70s. Hints are everywhere, though. Driving through Serenbe, one finds houses decorated for Christmas and Chanukah, reminding us of the triumph of light over darkness.

The fields sparkle with hope and holiday cheer.

I wander past the Serenbe labyrinth, a place for all to contemplate the blessings of life and to soothe the stresses.

Past clinging leaves holding on a moment longer before letting go and making way for new life.

I wander on to visit the animals at the Inn at Serenbe. I want to see my friends. They bray their welcome, making me laugh. I spend some time giving massages and soaking up their love and joy. It never matters how I feel when I arrive, I always feel better after a visit with these friends.

I make my way to see Tinker Bell and Gus. They have one remaining baby and she is getting big! She loves having her belly rubbed.

I find a young baby goat. She is precious and loves her mama.

One of the farm caretakers walks up with food and the goats bleat their excitement.

Finally, I look in on the llamas. They fascinate me. Such exotic beauty.

I wander back through the wildflower meadow. The sun is shifting. It's getting later. The field seems to rise up, capturing the last rays of the day.

The sun drifts behind the trees, illuminating tall stalks. Darkness must come for light to exist and nature accepts this. I feel content... renewed, even. I welcome the holidays. I delight in the incarnation, which to me simply means the embodiment of the sacred. We can experience incarnation every single day and I do as I walk the fields and visit the animals or run into a neighbor. I'm grateful.

From my heart here in Serenbe to yours, I wish each of you peace, love, and light in this holiday season. You all enrich my life. Thank you.

Amblewood Gallery will be open all Christmas week, except Christmas Day. Pick up a last minute gift of art, a gift certificate, or commission a special image. If you can't make it in during scheduled hours, call Carla at 706.614.7475 and she'll open the gallery for you.

Winter is Coming!

Like it or not, winter is on its way. These warm days are teasers. It won't be long now. You may think of winter as dreary and wish to be through it, but I find Serenbe a wonderland in the winter months. Already the woods are opening up, breathing with new found space.

Autumn flowers have bloomed their last.

Trees have finished turning.

Leaves have fallen, creating soft paths of color.

Leaving space for the forest to breathe.

Treasures can still be found.

Slow down enough to notice.

There is beauty everywhere, even in the broken.

If we are lucky, Old Man Winter will bless us with a dusting of snow.

Winter is my favorite season to wander the woods in Serenbe. I'll see you on the trails.

Opt for Art this holiday season! Visit Amblewood Gallery in the heart of Serenbe. Open every weekend or call 706.614.7475 for an appointment.

Living in Serenbe Blog Returns!

Hello, Friends and Neighbors. I created Living in Serenbe blog three years ago when I first moved to Serenbe. Folks loved it and I enjoyed doing it, but, alas, other things took my attention and I haven't posted in many months. I decided today that it is time to resurrect the Living in Serenbe blog. I hope you will enjoy it and pass it on to your friends and family. Don't forget to subscribe in the box to the right to receive the blog posts directly to your inbox.

After three years of living in Serenbe, I'm still enchanted. I still wander. I'm still in love with tree, lichen, fern, reflecting puddles, donkey ears, and horse muzzles. I love the clouded sky through tangled branches and light dancing off gurgling stream. These sustain and inspire me. I share them here with you.

The donkeys are some of my favorite critters. This is the newest baby born less than a year ago. Does anyone know if she has a name yet?

Horse muzzles make me laugh!

I'm lucky to wander with my little buddy, Pedro. He is a fine and brave companion.

From the critters, I head into the woods to find the treasures there. The sun is beginning to set.

Turkey tail mushrooms abound! I've read that they are edible and have wonderful health benefits. Research for yourself before eating.

Mushrooms and lichen create exquisite art.

After several days of rain, head into the woods and find treasures throughout the forest.

The forest is full of beauty and mystery. All that is required is to enter and open your heart and senses.
